Wurtzite P85 ceramic coating for Adelaide vehicles
Eighty-five percent SiO₂, a six-micron cured layer and a lifetime warranty on new cars. What the numbers mean once the coating is on your paint.

Most Adelaide owners do not think about paint protection until they are standing in the driveway one afternoon noticing the panels are not quite right. The colour is there, the depth has gone. A dullness. A few scratches that were not there last year, and a faint chalky haze on the bonnet that washing does not clear.
By then the clear coat has taken damage, and depending how far it has gone, fixing it costs a good deal more than protecting it would have.
What Adelaide weather does to paint
UV exposure here is constant. South Australia sits in one of the highest UV zones in the world, and from November through March your car is being baked regularly. UV radiation is the leading cause of paint oxidation and it works into the clear coat whether you can see it or not.
Then there is coastal air carrying Gulf salt and airborne pollutants, dust off the hills, road grime from the commute, bird droppings that etch the clear coat within hours on a hot day, and eucalyptus sap if you park under a gum. The paint takes hits from several directions at once.
For 4WDs running out to the Flinders Ranges, across to Kangaroo Island or up through the Barossa, add gravel chips, insect damage on the front end and weeks of sun on the horizontal panels. Regular washing helps. It does not protect. That is the gap.
The technical detail
Wurtzite P85 is a nano-ceramic paint protection coating. The active ingredient is silicon dioxide, and the concentration is why it sits above most of the market. Most coatings carry SiO₂ below 50%. P85 carries 85% per 50ml kit, which is what gives it the hardness, gloss and longevity.
Some products claim 90% or even 100% SiO₂. At 85% you are already at the practical ceiling, because the remaining 15% is the carrier and solvent that make the product workable. Quoted numbers beyond that are worth questioning. The SiO₂ in P85 is premium grade and manufactured in Japan.
Applied correctly in two coats it cures to a six-micron layer bonded chemically to the paint, reaching 9H or higher on the Mohs scale, harder than the clear coat beneath it. SGS, one of the leading certified testing agencies, only tests to 9H. Anything claiming beyond that has no testing behind it. Cured thermal rating is 750°C, which matters around engine bays and exhausts, and on any panel you have touched on a 40 degree afternoon.
What you get once it is on
- 01 UV and weather resistance The coating takes the UV hit so the paint does not. Oxidation and fading are slow, so you do not notice month to month. After a few years the difference between a coated and uncoated car is obvious.
- 02 Contact angle of 110 to 120 degrees Water forms tight beads and rolls off carrying dust with it, so a coated car largely rinses itself after rain and far less dirt bonds between washes.
- 03 Chemical resistance pH 2 to pH 13 That spans acid rain at one end and alkaline cleaners and concrete dust at the other. Bird droppings sit around pH 3.5 to 4.5, comfortably inside the range. You still clean it off, you are just not racing the clock.
- 04 Hardness above 9H Light swirls from washing and fine scratches from a shrub or a trolley go into the coating instead of the paint. It will not stop a key or a highway stone chip.
- 05 Anti-graffiti and oxidation resistance Useful on utes and 4WDs parked outdoors on work sites, where the chemical resistance makes cleanup much easier.
- 06 10-year performance life With a lifetime warranty on new vehicles when installed by an approved installer. Sealants, waxes and consumer ceramics usually need redoing inside 12 to 18 months.
Preparation decides the outcome
There is a common idea that ceramic coating is something you put on a car that has been cleaned. It is not. The coating bonds chemically to whatever surface it meets. Iron contamination, embedded road grime, micro-scratches or swirls from previous washes all get bonded in permanently, and getting them out afterwards means cutting back through the coating.
So correction before coating is not optional on a quality job. Here the process runs a full decontamination wash to pull iron particles and bonded contamination, then a clay bar to strip the surface back to clean, then correction with Italian polishing equipment where swirls, fine scratches or water etching need removing. Only then does the P85 go on. Cheaper jobs go wrong at this step, and it is rarely the coating that underperforms.
Which vehicles gain most

Chasing stone chip and front-end protection, film wins. Chasing UV protection, gloss, easier washing and whole-vehicle cover, coating wins. Wanting all of it on a car you are keeping, run both.
