Car detailing in Adelaide: what it covers and how often you need it
A wash cleans the surface. A detail works through the whole car by hand. What is included, how long it takes, and a sensible interval for South Australia.

Drive-through washes have their place. A quick rinse after a dusty week on the freeway, fine. If you are trying to hold the condition of the paint, the interior or the resale value, a wash does not get you there.
A wash cleans the surface. A detail addresses the car.
A wash removes loose dirt. It will not touch bonded contamination in the paint, will not go past a basic vacuum inside, and does nothing for clear coat condition, upholstery or trim. A full detail works through the vehicle methodically, by hand.

What your car needs depends on the condition it arrives in. A well-maintained vehicle takes less time than one that has not been touched in a couple of years, and we tell you what is involved before starting.
How long it takes
A basic detail on a clean car runs 2 to 4 hours. A full detail on a car in average condition takes five to eight. If the paint needs correction first, removing swirl marks, oxidation or deeper scratches before a protective coating goes on, that can take a full day or more depending on severity. Each step has to be finished properly before the next one starts.
How often
For a daily driver, every three to six months is reasonable. In South Australia, lean toward the shorter end.
Through summer the state can go weeks, sometimes all of January, without meaningful rain. Droppings, sap and road grime that land in December can still be sitting there in February, working into the clear coat in temperatures past 35°C. Sydney and Brisbane cars get rinsed by summer storms far more often. Ours do not.
Long country runs or parking under gum trees make a quarterly service worth it. A garaged weekend car can reasonably stretch to twice a year.
Detailing before a sale
A full detail before you sell or trade is one of the simpler ways to protect your asking price. Buyers and dealers read the condition immediately, and stained seats, dull paint or a musty interior hand them a negotiating point before they have looked under the bonnet. A thorough detail removes those objections before the first inspection. Add an interior protection treatment and the condition holds rather than looking good for a week.
When detailing is not enough
Detailing cleans and protects. It does not correct paint damage. Swirl marks, visible scratches or oxidation need paint correction first, a separate process using machine polishing to remove defects before any coating goes on.
We check the paint before recommending anything. If correction is needed we say so, because coating over damaged paint locks those defects in permanently and we will not do that to a customer’s car.
